Overcoming Instant Gratification

On any given day, the anxieties of life carve out places in our hearts; leaving a void longing to be filled.

There is a pang inside of us desiring to be truly satisfied and free from the heavy weights holding us down.

If we try to ignore this yearning deep inside our heart, we’ll only be tempted to find fulfillment in way that ultimately disappoints us.

Temporary distractions and “fixes” offered by the world are enticing but they only satisfy on the surface.

I’ve found that immediate gratification is typically a counterfeit for the powerful, life-changing freedom that can only be found in God.

They dangle themselves in front of us everyday; entertainment, shopping, eating, social media, hobbies… none of those things are bad, yet all of them temporarily numb the pang in our heart to be whole.

When I am willing to listen, I can hear that soft, compassionate voice of the Holy Spirit saying…

“Don’t settle for things that give you instant gratification.. I am right here willing to give your heart true wholeness and freedom.”

Overcoming instant gratification begins with listening with our heart for the voice of God and let Him lead us to true fulfillment.

Can you hear him?  He is standing at the door of our hearts.

“… I have come that they may have life and have it the full.”  – John 10:10

May our week be filled with less counterfeits and more of HIM.

Live Fulfilled!

Love, Danise

  1. I am so guilty of this!! In our “have it your way” culture, it is easily to get sucked into this cycle!
Only the ONE TRUE KING can give us what we are in need of!
Thank you for this reminder today – let’s look up!

  2. Your post reminded me how much I love the instant gratification of solving a problem but I am finding more and more that the quick fix isn’t always lasting. I need to wait on the Lord and seek His way, His peace and find an answer that is unchanging. Thank you for writing! Visiting from #tellhisstory

  3. Amen! There are so many distractions out there–may we all learn to take every thought captive and direct them to the One who can fill the deepest desires of our heart and bring us true freedom!

  4. I cannot tell you how many times a day I say to myself that the thief comes to kill, steal, and destroy; but, Jesus came that I might have and ENJOY my life in abundance, to the full, until it overflows. I need daily reminding of that. thx

  5. There is so much truth in these words. When I find myself stressed and worried, it’s usually because I’m looking to the wrong sources to gratify my needs. True fulfillment only comes from God.

  6. We look around and see that the instant is everywhere and in everything. Your words, Danise, are poignant as they ring Truth with a capital T. The Lord is ALL we need, ever need, and how gratifying He is every single time in ways we could never have imagined. I am so grateful that we have Him and can reach for Him and can listen to and for Him…any and all the time.
