I'm knocking

Open the Door / Amazon Giveaway

One April Sunday almost thirty years ago I heard the sound of a gentle knock on the door of my soul.

At first I didn’t recognize He was there – His invitation was blocked by the noise of my self-sufficiency.

Busy and exhausting myself with limited human efforts, meanwhile He waited so very patiently for me – just on the other side of the door.

Tirelessly He stood, knocking and waiting for me.

The faint rhythm of His consistent love became a beckoning call to my heart. “Open the door…”

The door swung wide open and my humanity collided with divine holiness – I was humbled in His presence.

Aware of my sin before Him, yet completely loved and accepted in the arms of unconditional love.

He filled my heart to overflowing and I never wanted to leave.

Life’s responsibilities pull me toward them, tempting me with my old ways of self-reliance…

And Jesus still stands, knocking at the door of my soul every day – when I am listening I hear the familiar melody of His invitation encourage me – “Open the door…”

I'm knocking

Revelation 3:20

“Look! I stand at the door and knock.

If you hear my voice and open the door,

I will come in,

and we will share a meal together as friends.”

  2. Hi Danise! I love the image of Jesus knocking at the door…and how He will stay until I open it. What patience He has! I’m sure you wonder why it took so long to answer that door, but don’t give it another thought. Here you are, encouraging so many! Jesus knows all about timing.

  3. That’s one of the verses we memorized in Sunday School class when I was little! I am grateful He continues to knock, even if we aren’t paying attention!

    1. Hi Perla!
It was the day He saved me… I heard truth, my heart knew it was truth and I said yes to the invitation to open the door and invite Him in. Since then He still knocks on the door of my heart to help me find freedom and peace, I just have to quiet myself and He leads me in the truth with His Word. I pray that no matter what you are facing today.. that you know that Jesus is always there to lead you and bring you through. May the peace and hope of God fill your heart through the power of His Holy Spirit! Blessing to you!

  4. Oh Danise, only Jesus can make us simultaneously aware of our sin and yet feeling completely loved. Am I right?! Self reliance is tempting in this world, but it’s so wise to avoid it. I have never noticed this part of the verse “and we will share a meal together as friends” until just now. Thank you for sharing that verse!
    Take care,

  5. I know there have been many times when the Lord has knocked at my door or tried to get my attention and I am so oblivious to it. My mind is filled with so many distractions that I miss the obvious. I must slow down, listen, and pray.

    1. He is so patient with us through all of our distractions… He has the answers we all need when we pray He will answer. Blessings to you Carla

  6. Revelation 3:20 is the verse my pastor gave me years ago. I’ve held it close as a reminder that He wants me to allow Him into every space . . . every room. So blessed by His patience and love. Great post Danise. Blessings!

  7. I am so very thankful that the LORD is patient and loving for I was 45 when I finally opened the door to find Him. He had never left me nor forsook me. He never gave up and I, at last, answered His call.
