Joy is a Gift

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10

Joy is actually the tool God has provided to help us through the hardships of life, and yet, oddly, it is usually the first thing we let go of when life gets hard.

As with all of the precious gifts that God gives to us… Joy is a gift that must be opened by choice.  I have learned this lesson through experience.

When the trials of life come with worry, stress and fear there have been so many times that God’s gift of joy sat unopened on a shelf in my heart.

His joy is a perfectly timely gift, yet I forfeit the strength I could have during moments I need it the most when I choose to focus on the distractions in life instead of God’s joy.

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” – John 15:11

Joy that comes from God isn’t based on our temporal happiness; it’s a deep anchor for our soul.

There is a freedom in Christ that awaits us as we look beyond the waves of our situation and lock eyes with our savior… the completely loving, joy-filled eyes of Jesus.  Slowly all the daunting distractions around us give-way to a joy that can only be discovered in Him.

No matter what you are facing in life… may your joy be complete through the love of Jesus and may the strength of God revealed through joy carry you through to victory!

  2. Danise, I have always loved how precious your heart has been! This has been my focus for the past two weeks! Joy! What strength it gives!!!! Thanks for the timely share!

  3. After losing my husband 6 years ago after a 6 wk, 1 day battle with cancer, I’ve struggled to find joy again. I am definitely going to order this if I don’t win it. Thank you for writing this and thank you for the opportunity to win a copy.

  4. This is an area that I really have to work at. When hardships hit, I begin to feel sorry for myself. Then I remind myself that there is someone else who is going through more hardships than what I am have. In addition, I must remember to turn my problems over to God and await the sweetness and joy he has in store for me.

  5. I am really excited to read the book after reading this post. I am so happy I clicked the link from Simply Clarke! After being in a struggling relationship for almost 9 years, I finally put my relationship with God first, and since then I have found a wonderful man and have a healthy relationship with him. I consider this to be the eye opening experience of seeing God’s promises being fulfilled in my life.

  6. Denise,
May God’s favor rest upon the launch of your book and may He touch many lives, healing hearts and bringing joy to the broken – all through the words He placed on your heart and that you were obedient to write! So glad I was a friend at #DanceWithJesus!
    Blessings and smiles,
