A Legacy of Words Fulfilled

A Legacy of Words Fulfilled

It was Christmas 1977, although there were many gifts under the tree for me there is only one I remember receiving.

Being twelve years old at time didn’t appreciate it then the way I do now because it was a dictionary.  Yes that’s right, among all the typical presents a preteen girl might receive on Christmas morning, I opened a hard bound High School dictionary.  Given to me, with a handwritten dedication from my sweet mom, who among many things was a lover of words.

My mom knew the power of words and she lived her life speaking and writing them to all around her.  When she suddenly went home to be with our Lord three years ago, I never had to wonder if my mom loved me.  She took every opportunity to let me know.

My bookshelf is filled with books given to me from my mom, each one with a loving handwritten dedication reminding me of her passion for words and the legacy she left behind.  There it sits in my study, decades later; the ‘Christmas morning’ dictionary.  Though it is worn from years of use and doesn’t look like much to the average on looker, it is precious to me.

As I went through the painful process of sorting through Mom’s items after she passed, I saw right at her bedside a Bible and of course an enormous dictionary.  Mom was a very gifted writer and she longed to have a book published.  She crossed to the other side of eternity before ever realizing that dream.

Now, after my own personal ten-year writing journey, countless prayers, edits and rewrites my first book “Fulfilled: Learning to Live God promised” is published and officially releasing on Amazon this week, August 25.

It is moments like these that I genuinely wish that my mom could be here to celebrate with me.  Mom has already entered the ultimate “fulfilled” life and I know that I will see her again.

So, I extend the invitation to you my sweet friends to celebrate with me as I launch “Fulfilled” out into the world this week!

  1. Wow, What a touching thought. The thing I am most excited about is that my mom and I are going to read this book together…it’s her first Christian book she has read and she asked me specifically to read it with her so we can discuss what she doesn’t understand…..I’m so excited to be on this journey with her and be able to share this book with her…can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  2. Danise – thank you for sharing this post specifically with your Heart”wings” fellowship sisters. I am so touched by your loving tribute to your mom whom I know is seeing you from Heaven and is so proud of you.

I am so delighted that God brought you into our group and He blessed all of us with you! I am excited about reading “Fulfilled!” j

  3. My mother is suffering from a life threatening illness and the family is at the bedside and asking God to use her and our heartache for a better purpose. Mom has lived a fulfilled life here on earth and probably soon that life will be completely “fulfilled” in the eternal home.

    1. Carla I am so sad to hear that you are going through such a painful time… I truly understand. I pray that God continues to give you His peace and comforts your heart

  5. I love this testimony and also celebrate your victory in achieving this dream and goal. I am sure your mom would be celebrating and so proud of you! What a great legacy she created in and for you! I look forward to checking out the book.

  6. What a wonderful legacy your Mom left you! And it is obvious to me that she did fulfill her dream of publishing a book; it was just done through you! I love to read and hope I have helped pass that on to my own daughter who is now a new mother and reading to her little one. Looking forward to your book!

  7. Congratulations! I’m like your mom is to my boys – giving them books to read – that they eventually do. I remember my grandmother’s gigantic dictionary with much love – I’m a word lover, too!

  8. Aaah, I want to leave that legacy. How beautiful! Your dedication and perseverance is such an honor to the mother that loved you well. I am sure she would be profoundly proud. Congratulations and enjoy every minute of this accomplishment!

  9. Denise,

My momma heart wanted to hug you today, to encourage you and to cheer you on. My daughter heart wanted to embrace the lesson you left in cherishing our mom’s with every moment. Even as a grown daughter ( with growing daughters) I need to keep that in the forefront of my mind.

I love words, too. I see my girls diving in to writing beyond my own scope. And I can see that my love for words is being passed on and that is the legacy she gave you. It was fulfilled in you!!

Congratulations on the book, the launch and all the ways God is going to open hearts to hear your words and feel the power He has prepared to be given as a result of your obedience to write and your mother’s obedience to share her love with you.

  10. Congratulations! My mama was gifted with words, too. She was one of my number one cheerleaders in writing my own book and was consistently asking “where are you on your book?” She went home to Heaven earlier this year, so I didn’t get to place a published copy in her hands. Her and Daddy’s encouragement to make sure whatever I write is God-honoring still resonates in my mind when I sit down to write. My most valued gift from them is their leading me to Christ, and encouraging me to include Him in every part of my life. I look forward to reading your book, “Fulfilled.”

    1. Cindy, I cried reading your beautiful comment… Keep writing and fulfilling the legacy of words your mama left you too! May we continue to share the hope and encouragement of God – honoring both Him and our mama’s as we write. blessings to you my sweet friend.

  11. How beautiful my precious friend. Or is that fulfilled?! The legacy your mom left is tangible. Real. And brig felt by everyone you touch with your words-spoken or written. Hugs.
